When onboarding a new client to WhatsApp Business API, there are two ways to register their WABA: Meta's Embedded Signup flow, or manual registration through the API. Understanding the difference helps you design the right onboarding experience for your platform — and choosing the wrong one can add unnecessary friction for you and your clients.
Embedded Signup is Meta's official in-app authorization flow. It's a popup dialog that you embed directly into your onboarding UI. When a client clicks "Connect WhatsApp", a Facebook-branded dialog appears where they log in, select or create their Business Account, and authorize your platform — all in a few minutes.
The result is an access token and WABA ID that your platform receives programmatically. No emails, no manual handoff, no waiting — the connection is live immediately after the client completes the dialog.
Manual registration involves calling Meta's Graph API directly to create and configure a WABA step by step: creating the WABA entity, adding a phone number, verifying it via OTP, and configuring webhooks and templates.
This approach requires more technical work and typically requires your clients to share their Facebook Business Manager access with your team, or you must access it with elevated API permissions. It's how enterprise teams with custom Meta integrations often handle onboarding — and it's also what WasapFlow Bridge supports for partners who prefer full programmatic control.
For most SaaS platforms, Embedded Signup is the better choice. It's self-service, fast, and produces a better client experience. Your clients never need to understand what a WABA is — they just click through a familiar Facebook dialog and they're live within minutes.
Manual registration makes sense when you need more control — for example, if you're onboarding enterprise clients who have existing Business Manager accounts with complex permissions, or if you're migrating clients from another Tech Provider with existing WABAs.
WasapFlow Bridge provides both registration paths. Partners can embed the WasapFlow-hosted Embedded Signup popup in their own onboarding flow with a few lines of JavaScript, or use our WABA Management API for fully programmatic registration.
Our partner dashboard also allows manual WABA registration directly in the UI — useful for scenarios where Embedded Signup isn't available, such as migrating an existing client with a previously registered number.
Start with Embedded Signup for your first client integrations. It's faster to implement and produces a polished, zero-friction client experience. Add manual WABA support later if your client base specifically requires it. Most partners find Embedded Signup handles 90%+ of their use cases.
